I've been in two situations recently as a customer, when I got a surprising freebie. Just after ordering my bagel and coffee at the Bagel Bar, the girl behind the counter offered me a bottle of mineral water for free. I was about to order a glass of water anyway, so this came as a welcome surprise.
Some days after, I went buying a steak at the meat section in my nearby supermarket. I was having a chat with the guy at the cashier about the fact that there didn't seem to be a lot of meat for so much money.
He obviously took pity on my miserable face when he said - "Tell you what sir, you may have this other steak for the same price" and he placed an extra steak on top!
So what's the customer service lesson here? The lesson is that nearly all customers love a freebie and if they get one from a supplier it builds a positive relationship. And when people order items at your online business, on the download section, give them unexpected freebies and they will love you for that.
As customers, we're more likely to come again and do business with people who give us freebies and we're more likely to tell other people regarding our positive experience. It's good approach to give your customers freebies at times but don't over do it. If you blast your email list with gifts on daily basis you are going to miss the objective and your internet marketing business is going to suffer for it..
